- The Maruti Suzuki Eeco will get a BSVI-compliant petrol engine along with other structural upgrades.
- These upgrades are in addition to the safety updates that it acquired earlier this year.
The crash-test and pedestrian-protection norms kick off from October 01, 2019, and October 01, 2020, respectively. The BS6 emission norms become effective from April 01, 2020. Automakers are racing against time to comply with these standards.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco gets various upgrades in the coming months to comply with all these norms. Earlier in the year, the vehicle got safety updates in the form of rear parking sensors, driver-side airbag, and ABS.
The engine upgrade is a vital one, as all vehicles should comply with BSVI emission norms. The new 1.2L G-Series petrol engine will be different from the K-Series BSVI-compliant engines used in other models like Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, and Ignis. It is because the K-Series engine design cannot adapt to the Maruti Suzuki Eeco’s longitudinal layout and rear-wheel drive system.
The existing BSIV engine in use in the Maruti Suzuki Eeco delivers 73hp power and a peak torque of 101Nm. The power and torque figures in the CNG variant are 63hp and 85Nm, respectively. This engine mates with a 5-speed manual transmission system to produce a mileage of 15.3kmpl. However, the switch to the BSVI norms can result in a drop inoutput and fuel efficiency.
Secondly, one can also expect a price hike because of the new upgrades. The present Maruti Suzuki Eeco price is in the range of Rs 3.52 to Rs 4.86 lakhs.
The Maruti Suzuki Eeco is not new to the market with the earlier version not performing up to the mark. The revamped Maruti Suzuki Eeco has been successful with a sales performance of more than five lakh units in the nine years of its existence. The present Maruti Suzuki Eeco comes in two variants, the five-seater and seven-seater versions.
