  • Maruti Suzuki Ertiga now gets a new 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine.
  • The new diesel Ertiga will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
  • The new diesel Ertiga will be Rs 30,000 pricier than the 1.3 DDiS diesel version.

In its bid to extend its dominance in the MPV segment, Maruti Suzuki has launched the 1.5-litre diesel Ertiga. The new 1.5-litre diesel Ertiga has been named the DDiS 225(denoting its peak torque output). The same engine was launched on the Ciaz sedan recently. The new engine develops about 95bhp of power and 225Nm of peak torque. The car will come with a six-speed manual gearbox, which helps it achieve good fuel economy. Maruti Suzuki claims an overall figure of 24.20kpl, making it one of the most fuel efficient cars in the country and the most fuel efficient MPV as well.

Prices for the new DDiS 225 start from Rs 9.86 lakh for the mid VDi version, while the ZDi is on sale for Rs 10.69 lakh and the top-end ZDi+ retails for Rs 11.20 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi). These prices are around Rs 30,000 more over the 1.3-litre diesel engine version of the car, which will also remain on sale.

Maruti claims that this completely in-house developed engine uses ‘Dual Mass flywheel’ that helps it to be smoother than the older 1.3-litre DDiS unit. A new ‘pendulum type’ engine mounting also adds to much more improved NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) characteristics according to Maruti.

Maruti claims that this is a growth of over 150 percent compared to the sales over the same period last year. The Ertiga won Autoportal’s best new MPV award for 2019.
