Maruti Suzuki has started testing the Fronx (codenamed YRA) hatchback in the country. Being based on the Suzuki iK-2 concept which was unveiled globally at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, it would be launched in India in the second half of 2015. One of the test mules of Maruti Suzuki Fronx (YRA) has been spotted by our friends at IndianCarsBikes and it is being learnt that unlike Swift & Ritz, the company would project it as premium hatchback to take on the Hyundai Elite i20 & Honda Jazz.
Maruti YRA would be previewing Suzuki iK-2 concept, which measured 4023 mm in length, 1920 mm in width, 1450 mm in height and 2520 mm in wheelbase. Underpinning an all-new platform, the production-ready model of YRA is expected to be quite similar to the iK-2 concept vehicle. Also, rumourmills have been abuzz with YRA hatch debuting the company's all-new Boosterjet engine in India. Just so you know, Suzuki Boosterjet is the company's new 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine, which uses direct injection technology and is said to deliver pretty high mileage. However, power output and torque performance of this new engine are still unknown, but the company had said that it uses "“various technologies to reduce weight".
As Fronx is a premium offering from the country's largest automaker, it would be sold through Maruti's new Nixa dealerships across the nation. The Japanese automaker is also expected to offer the YRA hatch in diesel avatar with its tried and trusted 1.3L Multi-jet diesel engine. There is no word on the pricing yet, but we expect the pricing to be in sync with its foes like Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. It could wear an introductory price of Rs. 5.5 Lakhs and go as high as Rs. 8.5 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) for the top-end variant.
