The Japanese car manufacturer Suzuki unveiled its mini crossover, the Ignis at the 2015 Tokyo motor show. The small crossover made its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo, and the company confirmed that the crossover will be launched during the festive season. However, the launch got delayed due to various issues, and now it is expected to be launched by February.
In terms of dimensions the Ignis measures 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, and 1,595mm in height. The small crossover comes with 2,435mm of wheelbase, while the ground clearance is 180 mm, that helps to glide over potholes. The car is likely to come with features such as keyless entry with engine stop and start button, touchscreen infotainment system with SmartLink or Apple CarPlay, reverse parking camera, ABS with EBD and dual airbags as standard safety equipments. Additionally the Ignis might come with the high-end Harman Kardon infotainment system, daytime running lights and hill descent control.
Maruti Suzuki is likely to equip the Ignis with a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit sourced from Fiat. Additionally the car is also likely to come with a smaller 1.0-litre Boosterjet three-cylinder petrol engine. As for the transmission, the car will be equipped with a 5-speed manual and an AMT transmission system.
As per various sources, the car is likely to be sold via Maruti’s premium Nexa dealerships across the country, and will be priced in the region of 5.5 lakhs. Once launched the Ignis will compete with the Mahindra KUV100. The Japanese Ignis is equipped with 4WD drive, however Maruti Suzuki hasn’t said anything about the addition of 4WD system in the Indian variant.
