- The Futuro-E SUV concept will be the original Maruti Suzuki product on display at the 2020 Auto Expo.
- Speculation is rife that the Maruti Suzuki Jimny could also get a debut at the Expo.
- The Jimny is a successful model in the overseas markets.
Maruti Suzuki will be unveiling the Futuro-E SUV concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. Not many people know that the 3-door Jimny SUV could get a look in, as well.
The Jimny is a successful model overseas. Premiered in 2018, the SUV has a worldwide following with India also indicating keen interest in it. The Jimny, manufactured in Japan, witnesses a high demand with the waiting period for the 3-door SUV exceeding a year.
As on date, the Suzuki Jimny is available in its 3-door avatar. Measuring 3300mm in length, the Jimny is 1475mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2250mm. Thus, it is a small SUV. Maruti Suzuki is considering introducing the regular 5-door SUV model in the form of the Futuro-E SUV concept car. The demand for SUVs in India is rising, but it remains to be seen whether the Indian market will accept a 3-door SUV model like the Jimny.
Therefore, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce the Jimny at the Auto Expo in India to gauge customer response. The Jimny draws its power from a K15B petrol engine. The Maruti Ertiga and the Maruti Ciaz have similar engines. The Japan market has a 660cc turbo-petrol engine variant, as well.
One has to wait until the Auto Expo to know whether the unveiling of the Jimny will take place or not. Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed the launch of the vehicle in India. However, it could test the waters by unveiling the 3-door SUV at the India Auto Expo 2020.
