- Maruti to brand Jimny as Gypsy.
- Maruti Suzuki Jimny to measure under 4 metres in length.
- It could be priced under Rs 10 Lakhs.
Maruti Suzuki is working on a plethora of new products for the Indian market. Various reports have suggested that one of them is Jimny 5-seater which will fill in the shoes of Gypsy. For those asking, Maruti Suzuki had pulled the plug on Gypsy last year and the production was stopped. Although nothing is concrete yet we expect the Maruti Jimny to attract a price of at least Rs 10 Lakhs (Ex. showroom), if not more.
Earlier, it was learned that the company will introduce the next-gen Gypsy in the Indian market. However, it wasn't the case and the company did not confirm anything at all. Currently, sources close to the development have told that Suzuki Jimny would be rebranded and retailed as next-gen Gypsy in India. The home-grown automaker could launch it by 2022-23 while positioning it below the Vitara Brezza. It is being believed that the 3-door version of Jimny which measures well under 4 metres in length, will not make it to Indian shores but a more conventional 5-door version is likely to make it to India.
Underpinning the ladder-on-frame architecture, the global model of Jimny is powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine that develops top power of 100bhp and peak torque of 130Nm. The engine is linked to a 5-speed low-range manual transmission as standard while a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will also be on offer as an option. Maruti Suzuki Jimny will directly take on the Mahindra Thar in the Indian market.
Meanwhile, in other news, Maruti Suzuki will be presenting the Vitara Brezza Facelift on 6th Feb at the 2020 Auto Expo.
