Maruti Suzuki is aiming to grab greater market share with increased production. In a bid to do that, the automaker is likely to set up a new production plant in Gujarat that will take the total production capacity of the brand to 3 million. The company is expected to invest around Rs. 4,000 crores for the new plant. Interestingly, this is going to be Maruti Suzuki’s third plant in Gujarat and the decision will be finalized soon.
This new factory is expected to start operations in 2019 and it will help the brand to post a total annual production volume of 3 million units by adding an increased capacity of 7.5 lakh units per annum that will come from all its three plants in the state. Clearly, this new plant is going to play key role in the brand’s grand strategy.
Presently, Maruti’s Gujarat plant can roll out 2.5 lakh cars per annum, while the Haryana facilities can produce 1.5 million units. Combined, the auto major can currently roll out 2.25 million units if cars. It is not sure, which models will be produced at this new facility, but we can hope the company starts rolling out its bestsellers from here.
In that case, we can expect Maruti Suzuki to start producing Baleno in this new facility. The Baleno has proved to be a very successful car from the brand and it is also Maruti Suzuki’s first made-in-India car that exports to Suzuki’s home market Japan. Apart from the Baleno, this new plant could also spawn out the recently launched, the all-new Swift. However, there are no confirmations yet from the brand and these are speculations only.
One thing is clear that, with a third production plant in Gujarat Maruti Suzuki will surely be able to strengthen its grip in the Indian market. Also, it will be able to increase its export volume as well. We hope to learn more about the brand’s decision regarding the new facility in coming days.
