Earlier we had reported that India's leading car manufacturer- Maruti Suzuki could issue a recall for 1.5 lakh units of the Swift Dzire compact sedan to rectify a problem with the fuel neck filler. Now a fresh report from TOI suggests that the recall could also cover the Swift hatchback as-well-as the Ertiga MPV.
The total number of vehicles likely to be recalled is approximately one lakh, including 47,237 units of the Swift (petrol and diesel), 42,481 units of the Swift Dzire and 13,593 units of the Ertiga (petrol, CNG and diesel variants).
The recall is expected to be initiated next week and will be cover the cars manufactured between November 12, 2013 and February 4, 2014.
Giving details of the defect, the company has stated, "Our supplier of fuel filler neck had carried out a repair in his machine after a breakdown. After repair, inadequate setting resulted into improper screw shape. Due to the above, there is a possibility of fuel smell and in extreme condition fuel may leak if it is filled up to the fuel cap level."
Maruti will start notifying the concerned customers but if you wish to know, you can visit the company’s official website (www.marutisuzuki.com/recall.aspx) and enter your car’s 14-digit alpha-numeric chassis number to ascertain whether you car is covered under the recall program or not. Alternatively you can also contact the nearest Maruti Suzuki dealership.
