Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country's largest automaker, registered a growth of 26.90 percent in its sales in the month of August. The company sold a total of 1,10,776 units as compared to 87,323 units, which it sold during the last year in same month. The numero uno auto maker also recorded a domestic growth of 29.30 percent in its sales.
Maruti's domestic market sales stood at 98,304 units and while last year during the same month, it had sold a total of 76,018 units. Even, the exports showcased a decent progress of around 10 percent as it went on to export around 12,472 units of its cars as compared to 11,305 units which it exported in the same month, a year back. The company stated that the mini hatchback segment that includes Alto, WagonR and Celerio achieved a 8.3 percent growth as a combined 34,686 units of these cars were sold against the 32,019 units in the last year's August. The compact cars - Swift, Estilo, Celerio, Ritz and Dzire registered a phenomenal growth of 53.2 percent for the company as around 46,759 units of these cars were sold as compared to 30,512 units in the August 2013.
Coming to the MPV segment, which includes vehicles Ertiga and Gypsy, Maruti recorded a 20.30 percent sales hike as 5,491 units of these vehicles were sold in comparison to the 4,563 units sold in the same month last year. The Utility vehicle segment comprising of Omni and Eeco saw an increment of around 25 percent as the company wheeled out 9,990 units of these vehicle in the month of August against the 7,956 units of these vehicle in August 2013. Swift Dzire was the most successful Maruti vehicle in the month of August while the only vehicle that registered de-growth was the SX4 sedan as its sales dip by 85.6 percent and a mere 50 units of this premium sedan were sold.
