According to Autoportal’s dealer contacts, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has opened bookings for the upcoming S-Cross crossover against a fully refundable amount of Rs 11,000. To be sold at Maruti’s new ‘NEXA' range of premium dealerships, the S-Cross is nearing its launch later this month.
The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will be available in two diesel engine options (both of which are based on FIAT Multijet): a 1.3-litre unit that makes 90hp and 200Nm of torque, and a 1.6-litre unit that makes 120hp and a huge 320Nm of torque. The latter comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox while the 1.3-litre unit gets a 5-speed unit.
Power is sent to the front wheels and unlike in the international markets, an all wheel drive version will not be offered. The S-Cross sits proudly in the crossover category – neither as low as a conventional hatchback nor as high as an SUV. The top spec version is likely to be offered with 16-inch alloys, which will go well with the overall macho look and the 180mm of ground clearance.
Space won’t be a problem on the inside, and same goes for features as well. And while the company is yet to reveal the vehicle’s prices, given that Maruti is known to price its products competitively (erm, except the CBU's, which they have no control over), expect the S-Cross to be priced judiciously.
