The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso has been launched at a price of Rs 3.69 lakh and tops out at Rs 4.91 lakh. The S-Presso is Maruti’s new entrant in the entry-level hatchback segment. It will retail alongside the Alto as a pseudo-SUV alternative.

The S-Presso has styling inspired by the Vitara Brezza and Ignis, which makes it look extremely contemporary. It follows the current trend of bright colours or accents, and large, dual tone bumpers that enhance the ‘SUV’ appeal.

The S-Presso is available in nine variants, with three of those being automatic variants. The three cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine is BS Vl compliant and generates 67bhp and 90Nm. It has a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.7kpl. The turning radius is 4.5 metres, which should make it easy to use in the city.

The S-Presso will be available in six colours, with the headlining colours being a bright orange and a pearl blue. In addition to the regular variants, one can add ‘packages’ to enhance the looks of the S-Presso. Two add-on packages are on offer, the Expedition package and the Energetic package, for an extra fee.

The interior is a fresh take on the entry level segment for the manufacturer, with more than a few hints from the Mini Cooper. It sports a large touchscreen topped with a central instrument console, a steering wheel with controls for the audio system and Bluetooth telephony.

One can also access satellite navigation via a smartphone app. It also manages to liberate more space with its height and additional wheelbase over the Alto. Storage space is also quite good, thanks to the foldable rear seats. ABS with EBD and a driver airbag are standard, while the VXi variants add a passenger airbag and seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters to the mix.

A segment-wise breakup of the pricing is given below:

S-Presso variantPricing, in lakh INR, ex-showroom

VXi4.24

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso competes with the Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-GO in the Indian market.
