Maruti Suzuki has cut the prices of the Ciaz and Ertiga by up to Rs 69,000, since the government of India has slashed the VAT (Value Added Tax) on all electric and hybrid vehicles under National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP). Previously, the 24 percent excise duty levied on on conventional petrol and diesel products, thanks to its Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) technology, making the car eligible for a 12.5 percent excise duty, while the prices for the petrol models still remain unchanged.
The diesel version of the of the Maruti Ciaz and Ertiga uses SHVS micro-hybrid system, which is a fuel saving technology that comprises of an engine stop-start function and a brake-energy regeneration system. ARAI rates fuel economy returned by the efficient Diesel SHVS hybrid variant is hands down more than the previous diesel version. The SHVS diesel variant is claimed to deliver excellent fuel economy of 28.09kmpl, while while the Ertiga claims to return a mileage of 24.52kmpl.
Under the hood, the Ciaz and Ertiga MPV are powered by a Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine that delivers 88.5bhp and 200Nm of torque. The price difference varies between Rs 50,000 – Rs 62,000 for the Ertiga diesel model, while for the Ciaz it varies between Rs 60,000 – Rs 69,000.
