Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport concept would debut at the upcoming 2015 Tokyo Motor Show in October, reports Motoring.com.au. It is further being learnt that this new concept car - based on Maruti Swift - would feature a new turbocharged petrol engine and all-wheel-drive system. The Swift Sport concept might be carrying the 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine with a revised version of the company’s Twin Clutch System.
It is being learnt that Swift Sport concept would also hint at the designing of the next-generation Swift hatchback, which is expected to come out in 2017. As for designing, the Swift Sport would flaunt rally-inspired aggressive bodywork. Measuring 1.8 meters in width, it would feature several new aerodynamic components. Also, it is said to be hybrid as it would feature the company's ‘S-energy’ system which employs lithium-ion batteries to allow for full-electric cruising, in addition to the turbocharged motor.
Shedding light on the 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine, it also features Maruti's latest ‘Boosterjet’ technology. Just so you know, this very engine was rumoured to be debuting with the China-spec S-Cross, but it finally made appearance at Auto Shanghai 2015. It is said to be developing a maximum power of 134bhp and 220Nm of peak torque, while being mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. For those wondering, this 1.4L turbocharged petrol motor also has a small sibling in form of a 1.0L turbocharged 'Boosterjet' petrol engine, which was unveiled at Geneva Motor Show and would come with YRA hatchback this year in India. Also, as we mentioned earlier, the Swift Sport concept would carry an all-wheel-drive system and this system has a unique speciality, which is that it temporarily disengages to a front-wheel drive at turns, only to re-engage when the accelerator is pressed again.
