The new 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport would have its world premiere on September 12 at the 67th Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). Being firstly introduced in 2005, the new hatch is also expected to arrive in the Indian market in 2018. For those asking, the Swift Sport is the performance derivative of the hatchback with sportier exterior and interior. The third-generation Swift Sport will be presented in a completely redesigned avatar at 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, which will be held at Messe Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main from September 12-24.
The Swift Sport is visually different from the standard model due to the inclusion of an aero kit, sporty wheel arches and special alloy wheels. The interior cabin also boasts of a few such elements in form of stainless steel sport pedals, leather steering wheel and sport seats and contrast stitching. Owing to all the exterior and interior enhancements, the 2017 Maruti Swift Sport would be heavier than the standard model. Though, it would be a bit lighter than the ongoing model of Swift Sport due to the lightweight ‘HEARTECT’ architecture and turbo engine. The new Swift Sport hatchback would derive its power from a retuned 1.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged BOOSTERJET K14C petrol engine which would develops 147bhp at 5500rpm and 245Nm between 1500-4000rpm.
As per the various media reports, the Swift Sport is under consideration for India debut. And, if at all, it hits the Indian shores, then it could be powered by the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged BOOSTERJET petrol engine, which also does duties to the Baleno RS. The suspension system would be revised, while ground clearance can also be increased to suit the Indian conditions and get the benefit of lower taxes. The Swift Sport hatchback could be locally manufactured in the country to keep the pricing in vicinity of 9-10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom), while it competes with the likes of Fiat Abarth Punto and Volkswagen Polo GT TSI. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the all-new Swift hatchback at the 2018 Auto Expo in February in India.
