Home grown auto-major Maruti Suzuki, is planning to bring five fresh products for the premium car buyers in India. MSI accounts for half of the small car sales in the country, while the company has struggled to fetch good numbers in the premium car arena. Currently, the company sells a total of seven models in India, including the country's highest selling 'Swift' hatchback and sedan. In future, auto-major hold plans for a new crossover, two SUVs, an MPV and a mid-sized sedan. A few out of these will be displayed at the upcoming Auto Expo.
First on the cards will be Ciaz, a new mid-size sedan which will be launched by the end of this year. The design of the Ciaz is based on the ‘Authentics Concept’ shown at the last year's Shanghai Motor Show. Ciaz is expected to come with Ertiga's 1.4-litre K-Series petrol engine that, and the Fiat's 1.6-litre mult-jet diesel engine. The Ciaz will be pitted against the segment leader Hyundai Verna and recently launched Honda City. Along the Indian market, Ciaz will also be sold in China, West Asia and Africa.
Other than Ciaz, the company plans a S-Cross crossover which will be launched in early 2015, a XA Alpha design based compact SUV in 2016. A larger MPV positioned above the Ertiga to compete with Toyota Innova and a larger SUV based on the iV-4 concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show, also hold their place in company's future portfolio.
