Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has sold 10,362 units in September 2019.
This figure is nearly 2,400 units more than its nearest competitor, Hyundai Venue.
The past four months had seen other SUV manufacturers overtaking the leader, Maruti Suzuki, consistently. However, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has overtaken all its rivals to emerge as the top SUV selling brand in September 2019.
Since its debut in May 2019, Hyundai Venue has been performing strongly, with sales increasing to more than 9,600 units in July 2019. The arrival of the Hyundai Venue caused a slump in the sales figures of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza by bringing it below the 10,000 mark.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has performed reasonably better in September to regain the top position from Hyundai Venue with sales of 10,362 units as compared to 7,942 of its nearest competitor. However, it is way below the September 2018 figure of 14,425 units, thereby resulting in a YoY decline of 28%.
Though Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has outperformed its rivals in September 2019, one can expect a high level of competition between the two top-ranked SUVs in the coming months.
Maruti Suzuki is proposing to launch a Vitara Brezza Facelift in the coming months to counter the competition. The Facelift model could sport a 1.5L SHVS petrol engine. Maybe, the surge in the sales could be because of the high level of discounts offered in the festive season.
Maruti Suzuki has recorded a YoY drop of 24.4% with September 2019 recording overall sales of 1,22,640 units. It includes 2,952 and 7,158 units in OEM supply and exports, respectively.
The current FY has seen a drop of nearly 24%, with Maruti Suzuki reporting overall sales of 7,40,911 as against 9,75,327 in the corresponding period in 2018. The domestic sales performance took a hit, as well, with sales of 1,10,454 units as compared to 1,51,512 units in September 2018.
Hyundai posted a comparatively better performance as it recorded a YoY decline of 14.8%, with sales of 40,705 units in September 2019 as compared to 47,781 in September 2018. The positive aspect is that the export sales performance of Hyundai improved to 13.5% YoY, with Hyundai exporting 17,000 units in September 2019.
