Maruti Suzuki SX4 S-Cross has been spied as test mule during its extensive test runs in Rajasthan. Although, Maruti's next offering is the Ciaz sedan whose marketing and promotional campaigns have already commenced and it is slated to launch in the first week of October. But, SX4 S-Cross is company's another ambitious project and it would also mark Maruti's debut into the flourishing compact SUV segment.

The S-Cross SX4 had its world premiere at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and went on sale in several international markets immediately, especially Europe. It replaced the SX4 there and but in India, it would come after an array of modifications by the mid of 2015. Going by the spy-shots we have, the crossover flaunts a three-piece horizontal slats chrome grille, day time running projector headlamps and a pair of fog lamps. Interior cabin would be sourced directly from the Swift hatchback and no change is expected in this aspect. The SX4 S-Cross was also showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo and visitors hailed its bulky presence.

Mechanically, it is expected to carry the twin 1.6L engines in both the petrol and diesel guises. The 1.6L, 4-cylinder, petrol motor would generate a maximum power output of 120bhp in accordance with a peak torque performance of 160Nm. On the other hand, the 1.6L diesel powertrain would muster out 120bhp of top power and 320Nm of peak torque. However, nothing is concrete on the powertrains as of now as the company's hasn't divulged any details about it; but since the European models come loaded with these engine options, it seems pretty much on cards. The transmission options would be a 5-speed manual and an CVT automatic gearbox. It would be challenging the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Mahindra XUV 500, while priced in a domain of Rs. 12-15 lakhs.
