According to reports, Maruti Suzuki will reveal the India-Bound S-Cross compact SUV at the upcoming International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA), to be held on 7th June in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Apart from the revealing, reports are that the company will also rename the car from SX4 S-Cross to A-Cross. The official launch of the car in India will take place later in the year.
As we are writing this report for you, Hyundai has already revealed the name of their compact SUV, which was till now called the ix25, as the 'Creta'. Maruti A-Cross will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Ford Ecosport and Renault Duster. The compact SUV segment in the coming days is going to witness a lot of players and the A-Cross will mark the Maruti's entry into the highly competitive crossover segment.
The Maruti Suzuki A-Cross is expected to come with a Fiat sourced 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. This engine will be the first engine from Fiat apart from the famous 1.3-litre unit, that will do duty in any car in India. The engine generates 118bhp and 314 Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. If Maruti will give the A-Cross a petrol engine or not will be a thing of the future.
Talking in terms of the looks, the A-Cross, being a crossover, will get typical off-roader design like the high ground clearance, black plastic cladding beneath the body and metal scuff plates both at the front and rear. Other features like DRLs and alloy wheels will also make way to India. Inside the cabin too, one can expect good levels of equipment on the top-spec trims.
The A-Cross will be most likely be priced from Rs 7 - 10 Lakhs!
