The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV prototype has been spotted undergoing test runs in the country a couple of times. While the electrified Maruti Wagon R is estimated to launch sometime in 2020, nuggets of information have been surfacing lately, revealing vital details about the upcoming EV. According to reports, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV is likely to offer an impressive real-world range of 130 km under ideal conditions. Interestingly, the official certified range is likely to be more than 130 km.
Just like other EVs, the Maruti Wagon R EV range will be inversely proportional to the speed. That said, the range will come down to 100 km if the speed goes up. Interestingly, the 130 km real-world range will give Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV an edge over rival models such as Mahindra Electric e20, Tata Tigor and Mahindra e-Verito.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV will be the first EV from India’s largest car maker and while complete details about the EV are yet under the wraps, reports suggest, it will support both AC charging and DC charging. It is reported that the charging time through AC charger will be around 7 hours, whereas DC charger will enable 80 per cent charge in just 60 minutes.
The prototypes caught on test shows two charging inputs-one at the front for the AC charging and other at the rear for DC charging. Visually, the Wagon R EV gets a large two-part front grille, split headlamps and a huge grille section on the bumper. While at the side, it features body coloured B-pillar and the wing mirror is placed on the door instead of the pillar. Round the back, it gets a clean tailgate, sunken tail-light positioned above the bumper. It is expected that most of the styling elements will be seen on the final version, save for a few changes. As for mechanicals, the details haven’t been revealed yet.
