Maruti Suzuki is working on the seven-seater version of the Wagon R and the car is expected to enter production for the Indian market in September this year. While the brand is tightlipped about the launch time of the Wagon R based MPV, it has been already spotted in the country couple of times. Expect it to hit the showrooms across the country in November this year.
Sold in other global markets as Suzuki Solio, this seven-seater MPV will be positioned below the Ertiga in Maruti Suzuki’s India portfolio. Despite being the strongest player in the small car segment of Indian car market for decades, Maruti Suzuki has seen a great response in the UV segment as well thanks to the Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and S-Cross. Now, the company is all set to beat India’s SUV specialist Mahindra in terms of sales in this fiscal. Adding more utility vehicles in the kitty will certainly give the brand an edge over its closest rival in the segment.
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R MPV will come carrying the signature design elements of the popular tallboy hatchback. It will come with a third-row seating arrangement, upmarket features inside the cabin. Expect the car to offer generous space to the occupants making the journey experience comfortable. Powertrains for this MPV would be from the brand’s existing petrol and diesel engine options.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R MPV could get a mild hybrid technology as well, just like the Suzuki Solio. In terms of pricing, this car will certainly come with an aggressive pricing. Expect it to be priced between Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 8 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
