India’s leading carmaker, Maruti Suzuki showcased the Concept Future S and a new design language at the Auto Expo 2018 which received an overwhelming response from the experts and visitors. The Concept Future S is likely to get into production in future and join the likes of other sub-four meter SUVs such as Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. Reports in media are rife that Maruti Suzuki is planning to bring back the ‘Zen’ moniker for its new SUV.
It is expected that the production-spec model will receive a host of changes over the Concept. Sources in the know reveal Maruti will position the model below its stellar model, Vitara Brezza in the line-up. Media reports also opine, Maruti Suzuki is working on an array of products under its new product strategy.
Coming to the Concept Future-S, it was developed indigenously by Maruti Suzuki in India and features a new design language. In visual terms, the SUV has an upright front end, with white accents around the grille and headlamps. The bumper has a silver scuff plate and twin vents on either side with white surrounds. There is a white frame around the front windshield. One of the highlights of the concept is the pillar-less doors and a gently sloping roofline that tapers towards the rear. At the back, it gets twin-U shaped light design, akin to the front with white highlights. The chunky rear bumper houses a large silver skid plate.
On the inside, the Concept Future S features cream colour scheme with a splash of orange on the steering wheel and other orange accents. A circular infotainment system is also layered on the centre console.
Maruti is yet to reveal technical details about the concept, though it is believed to be based on the HEARTECT platform that currently underpins new Swift. In terms of engine set-up, the SUV is likely to get a hybrid powertrain comprising a 1.2-litre, K-Series petrol unit or a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder oil burner.
