The British supercar brand, McLaren had revealed its plans to integrate hybrid and autonomous technology in the next generation of its sports cars. Talking on the sidelines of Goodwood Festival of Speed, the officials from company revealed that it has deferred the plan to go all hybrid for the Super Series and Sports Series to 2025. The company had initially set the target for 2022. Besides, the company is also planning to launch 18 new models and derivatives which could be one of the reasons for pushing the timeline from 2022 to 2025.

While there is still time for the all hybrid sports cars, the company will soon come up with a single hybrid powertrain which it will be offering with a number of different power outputs akin to the 3.8-litre V-8 petrol engine. One must note that there will be different levels of hybrids performance depending on whether a model is designed more for the road or the track. This will be achieved by altering the electric part of the system, while the car’s ICE and batteries will also be calibrated for managing 30 minutes of use on the track.

While the company is yet to reveal details on the new models, there could be at least 10 all new models or offshoots to be launched in the next 7 years even if the company plans to completely revamp the existing models in the line-up. The new models and offshoots will not include a driverless car.
