McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has prepared a limited-run 650S Spider Can-Am to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the very first Can-Am season. The open-top supercar takes design cues from the racing cars of those days when McLaren shined in the competition, winning no less than five consecutive titles between the years 1967 and 1971. Only 50 of these masterpieces will ever be made and will be offered among other finishes with attractive red and black body with a carbon fiber retractable hard top.
Moreover, carbon fiber was also used for the door blades, airbrake, rear bumper center, front splitter, sill covers and the hood while the forged alloy wheels are exclusive to this special edition. These glossy black wheels are wrapped around in high performance Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and come with a diamond cut trim as well as titanium bolts to mimic the appearance of the classic racing wheels of the 60s and 70s.
What makes the 650S Spider Can-Am really stand out is the newly developed quad exhaust setup manufactured from polished stainless steel while the standard carbon ceramic brakes are standard and come paired to black calipers. The body can be painted in Onyx Black, Papaya Spark or Mars Red and all hues come with a matching racing livery. For the interior, MSO has applied carbon fiber accents, leather & Alcantara upholstery and a unique dedication plaque that sits on the driver’s door.
There aren’t any changes in the engine area, so the 650S Spider Can-Am utilizes the same 3.8-liter V8 twin turbocharged engine with 650 bhp and a maximum torque of 678 Nm which ensures a 0-100 kmph run in as little as 3 seconds and a 329 kmph maximum speed.
McLaren says this limited-run edition is a global model and will start reaching customers in the spring of 2016, with pricing at home in United Kingdom kicking off at £255,850.
