The Mercedes-Benz C250d 4MATIC is certainly not the type of car you could imagine taking down a record, but that is exactly what happened this week when test driver Uwe Nittel took it to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. He managed to complete the 19.9 km route in 11 minutes and 22 seconds, thus establishing a new record for a production car equipped with a diesel engine.
This version is powered by a four-cylinder, 2.1-liter turbodiesel engine that produces 204 bhp and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. It works together with a 7G-TRONIC PLUS gearbox to send power to a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. Thanks to this hardware setup, the C250d 4MATIC will run the 0-100 kmph sprint in a decent 6.9 seconds and is capable of topping out at 249 kmph.
While this version isn’t currently available in India, Mercedes-Benz does offer a C220 CDI model with the same engine but detuned to 168 bhp and 400 Nm. Due to the lower output, this version is a tad slower in the sprint which takes 7.4 seconds while top speed stands at 233 kmph. Since this is a diesel, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that fuel economy is quite impressive as this version will deliver 19.2 kmpl.
Those of you who are interested in getting the C220 CDI should know Mercedes-Benz India is asking Rs 39.90 lakh for the C220 CDI Style whereas the more generously equipped C220 CDI Avantgarde is priced at Rs 42.90 lakh.
We should mention there’s also a C200 gasoline version available since November last year for Rs 40.90 lakh. We already took it for a test drive and this one is equipped with a 2.0-liter engine producing 181 bhp and 300 Nm which is enough for a sprint in 7.3 seconds and a 235 kmph top speed. Just like the diesel version, the C200 comes with the same 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission.
