Mercedes Benz India has earmarked up to 10 product launches for the year 2014. And the high performing CLA45 AMG is one of them. Now usually, its the regular model that gets launched first and then its performance-oriented counterpart debuts. With the CLA though, Merc has ditched the convention and have decided to bring the highly potent CLA45 AMG into the Indian market first, while pushing the launch of the CLA-Class sedan to sometime in 2015. And according to latest reports, Mercedes Benz India is preparing to roll out the CLA45 AMG into the country on 22nd July 2014.
The CLA45 AMG is based on Merc’s highly successful MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform that also underpins the gorgeous A-Class and the B-Class. The A-Class has already received rave reviews for its handsome front grille and the same has been borrowed by the CLA coupe and also the CLA45 AMG. The swooping roof line has been inspired by the larger CLS-Class. Couple that to a low body kit, broad wheels and seamless windows and you get one very stylish machine.
When you have the AMG tag onto a Merc, a glance at the spec sheet is mandatory. Case in point being, the CLA 45 AMG has been equipped with the world’s most powerful series production spec four- cylinder engine. The heavily turbocharged 2.0-litre engine throws out 360PS of power and 450Nm of torque. The combination of power and traction becomes so dominant that Mercedes is claiming an astonishing 4.6 second run to 100 kmph - that’s faster than a lot of more powerful supercars in the world. The engine comes mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which sends power to all four-wheels via Merc’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
We reckon the Mercedes Benz CLA45 AMG will carry a sticker price reading Rs 60 and above, making it the cheapest AMG on sale in the country. Lastly, the Mercedes Benz CLA45 AMG will be the company’s seventh AMG model to land on Indian shores after the C63, G63, E63, SLS, SLK55 and the GL63, which is in line with Merc’s commitment of bringing its entire range of AMG cars into India.
