Mercedes-Benz Edition E Launched at Rs. 48.60 Lakhs

Snapshot: The launch of Edition E also commemorated 20 years of the start of production of the E-Class in India.

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the refreshed version of the E-Class sedan, named as Edition E, at an introductory price of Rs. 48.60 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Pune) in the country. Mercedes-Benz E-Class holds the dual distinction of being the first luxury car to be ‘Made in India’ and of being the highest selling luxury sedan in the country, with more than 32,000 units on Indian roads. The launch of Edition E also commemorated 20 years of the start of production of the E-Class in India.

Mercedes-Benz Edition E was launched by Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India and Piyush Arora, Executive Director, Operations, Mercedes-Benz India at the company’s Chakan plant. Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “With the introduction of the ‘Edition E’, we are also launching an exciting brand campaign called ‘Wish upon a Star’. ‘Wish upon a Star’ campaign commemorates 20 years of the E-Class’legacy in India and brings to fore the fact that, the E-Class has been the heart and soul of motoring enthusiasts across the country over the years. In these 20 years we have delivered 32,000 E-Classes to our customers that have dominated the mid-size luxury segment in India. Every new generation of the E-Class has redefined the segment and created a new benchmark.”

The Edition E is presented in three variants: E200, E250 CDI, and E350 CDI. Talking about the exterior upgrades, it flaunts an 'Edition E' badge with LED headlamps featuring the Intelligent Light System, illuminated star and black hub caps. Also, there is a new look fibre-topic tail-lamp cluster. The 'Edition E' also gets the electronic panoramic sunroof with Pre-Safe closing function.  It comes with 8 airbags and apreventive occupant protection system as standard. Inside the cabin, it boasts of exquisite features like THERMOTRONIC Automatic Air Conditioning, Memory seats with 3 settings, Sporty brake pedals, Active Park Assist with camera and a High resolution color media display (20.3 cm). In addition, the Edition E also comes with the Harman Kardon surround sound system, which includes a 9 channel DSP amplifier and 2-channel booster with an output of 610 watts combined with 14 speakers designed with Dolby Digital 5.1. The range-topping E350 CDI variant also gets rear seat entertainment system as standard.

Commenting on the occasion of 20 years of E-Class in India, Piyush Arora, Executive Director, Operations, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “20 years of unhindered production of the E-Class, strongly underscores the high level of refinement and implementation of advanced technology and flexible processes in our production facility. The E-Class’ production quality conforms to the most stringent global Mercedes-Benz standards, and has been creating new benchmarks in manufacturing of luxury cars in India. The unmatched success of the E-Class over these two decades has truly defined luxury motoring in India and the product clearly remains a step ahead of the competitive offerings in the market.”

Mechanically, the Edition E comes in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with E200 being the only petrol variant, while E250 CDI and E350 CDI are the two diesel variants. The E200 is powered by the 2.0L, 4-cylinder motor which belts out 184bhp of top power and 300Nm of peak torque. It does a 0-100kmph sprint in just 7.9 seconds, while having a top speed of 233kmph. Coming to the E250 CDI, it derives power from a 2.2L diesel motor. The 4-cylinder diesel engine develops a maximum power of 204bhp and highest torque of 500Nm. It touches the 100kmph mark from standstill in just 7.5 seconds before topping out at 242kmph. Last but not the least, the flagship E350 CDI comes with a 3.0L, V6 powertrain which generates 265bhp and 620Nm. It is the quickest of all as it does the 0-100kmph sprint in just 6.6 seconds with top speed of 250kmph. Below is the variant-wise pricing (Ex-Showroom, Pune) of the Mercedes Benz Edition E:
