Mercedes-Benz is the byword for luxury in the Indian automobile scene. Just as Mercedes Maybach denotes the Ultimate in Luxury and AMG personifies Driving Performance, Mercedes Benz has launched a new technology EQ that signifies Mercedes’ quest for providing ‘Sustainable Luxury.’

EQ embodies Electric Intelligence and is derived from the brand values of Emotion and Intelligence. The launch of this technology will go on to revolutionise the Indian automobile scene, especially in the Electric Vehicles domain by providing an exhilarating mix of luxury and sustainment of the environment.

This technology has taken roots today and will culminate in the launch of the first model, the EQC by April 2020. Mercedes Benz plans to push the endeavour further to introduce more attractive models and products in the future using this technology. 

The new decade brings with it fresh challenges. Customer awareness is at its highest levels, thereby prompting Mercedes to explore, experience, and indulge in satisfying their requirements. Thus, Mercedes has adopted the motto, “Restless for Tomorrow” for the first year of the new decade, the 2020s.

As part of its endeavour to providing Sustaining Luxury, Mercedes-Benz has various initiatives lined up for execution. It includes the inauguration of the 100th Mercedes Benz outlet and other innovative customer-centric initiatives that underline the significance of this mantra.

Mercedes-Benz Unveils EQ EV Brand in India

Mercedes-Benz is committed to introducing sustainable initiatives in its production facility. The company plans to produce electricity from solar energy by installing solar power plants comprising of more than 4000 solar panels. These panels will be producing around 1.6 megawatts of current per year and cater to more than 45% of Mercedes Benz’s power requirements. Besides, it will reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions by more than 2600 tons.

This initiative is in line with Mercedes Benz’s objective of becoming a carbon-neutral organisation, as it will be a 75% Green Energy Manufacturing facility. Mercedes has always taken the lead in introducing environmentally friendly products with its cars being 85% recyclable and 95% recoverable.

Martin Schwenk, MD, and CEO, along with Santosh Iyer, VP, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes Benz India, launched the brand EQ at the company’s manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune.   

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Martin Schwenk proudly stated that the brand EQ will revolutionise the Indian automobile scene, especially as far as providing luxury mobility is concerned. The EQ brand will be the first luxury electric car brand in India. He added that the time is now ripe for introducing EVs in India and expressed hope that the EQC EV will pave the way for expanding the green car portfolio in this country.

Martin Schwenk elaborated that the company is announcing its arrival in the electromobility field in India with the launch of the EQ. The EQC Edition 1886 is a progressive design that provides excellent driving dynamics while sustaining the environment at the same time.

The EQ 1886 will come with delectable features and have an exclusive appeal with exquisite looks. The car will be available in one colour initially, high-tech metallic silver. 

The highlighting feature is the black panel radiator grille with louvres in black providing the perfect match. 

Other individual features include the EQC Edition 1886 badge lettering on the mudguard to distinguish it from other vehicles. The vehicle will come with 10-spoke 20-inch light-alloy wheels in black colour with decorative elements in a contrasting white colour.

The EQC Edition 1886 interiors will be as beautiful as its exteriors. The new seat designs and upholstery in ARTICO man-made leather are distinguishing features. The EQC Edition 1886 lettering is available as an embroidered embellishment on these seats reminding occupants of the Sustainable Luxury initiative of the company.

As usual, the Mercedes EQC Edition will also come with high-quality safety features by providing outstanding driving assistance. Occupants can experience exclusive entertainment inside the vehicle as the Burmester Surround Sound equipment is of the highest quality. 

The Energizing Package onboard comprises of various new initiatives such as ionising the air to keep it fresh and fragrant. The best aspect of this feature is that it uses the data from the vehicle and the surroundings to recommend the optimal Energizing Programmes to provide the highest levels of comfort and luxury. This data includes traffic situation, weather, and the length of the journey, as well.

As far as charging facilities are concerned, the EQC Edition 1886 comes equipped with a water-cooled onboard charger having an output of 7.4kW. Facilities for charging the vehicle at home are also available apart from charging the same at public charging stations. The DC charging facility is the standard feature for the EQC. The car can be charged with a maximum output of up to 110kW.
