Mercedes Benz ESF 2019 Showcased at Safe Roads Summit in India

Mercedes Benz has showcased the 2019 ESF, its latest research car, at the ongoing second edition of Safe Roads Summit India. Being based on the new 2020 GLE SUV, Mercedes Benz ESF 2019 was made its public premiere in presence of Nitin Gadkari, Honourable Minister for Road Transport & Highways of India, Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India.

The ESF 2019 had its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show which was held earlier this year. It comes equipped with semi-autonomous tech while the exterior has been designed and developed in such a way that it warns the driver beforehand regarding potential dangers.

The SUV flaunts a multi-colored lighting scheme with projection panels and a warning robot in a triangular shape. It has been engineered to come with intuitive warnings for not just the occupants but also the surroundings. The 2019 model of ESF will replace the ESF 2009 which was based on the company's flagship sedan S-Class.

In the fully automated mode, Mercedes Benz ESF 2019 offers to retract functionality for the steering wheel and pedals so that injuries can be minimized in event of a crash.

The SUV also features a Pre-Safe Child system which adjusts the seatbelt tension and extends the side-mounted impact protection elements before a collision. The ESF 2019 also debuts a rear airbag with a new inflation concept.

The rear seat occupants are further equipped with belt-feeders, belt buckle illumination, USB belt buckles, and belt heating. Additionally, active brake assist is also introduced as standard.
