Mercedes Benz GL63 AMG to launch in India on 15th April

Snapshot: The GL63 AMG has been packed with a 5.5-litre V8 engine rated at 560PS & 760Nm.

Mercedes Benz India is prepping to roll out its all-new GL63 AMG crossover in the country on the 15th of April 2014. The GL63 AMG is the seventh AMG model that is slated to make a debut in India, following the C63, G63, E63, SLK G55, SLS-AMG and the SLS AMG Roadster, which made their respective debuts in 2011-2013. The move is part of Mercedes Benzs’ strategy to bring the entire range of models from its performance division to India.

What differentiates the GL63 AMG from the regular GL-Class is the highly potent powertrain that the former houses. Packed with a 5.5-litre V8 engine, the GL63 AMG races from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph. The engine is rated at a massive 560PS of max power and 760Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a 7-Speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The crossover is a four-wheel-drive vehicle. Visual differences between the performance oriented GL63 AMG and its regular sibling is the 21-inch alloy wheels, chromed AMG quad-tailpipes, the AMG steering wheel and of course, the AMG badging on the rear.

Expect the GL63 AMG to come loaded with tons of comfort and safety features such as ABS with EBD, ESP, Traction Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Pre-Safe and Blind Spot Assist, and a number of technologies to ensure a comfortable ride quality such as Active Curve System, Adaptive Damping System and Air-matic air springs to drastically reduce body roll.

Mercedes Benz India has not yet, revealed the price tag of the SUV, but we expect it be upwards of one crore rupees. The eighth model in the AMG series offered in India, will be the CLA 45AMG which is expected to launch by June this year.
