Mercedes-Benz India has launched the performance based GLA 45 AMG in the country at a sticker price of Rs. 69.60 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Mumbai). India finally gets its first performance oriented luxury crossover SUV with the GLA 45 AMG as both its contemporaries Audi Q3 and BMW X1 doesn't have performance based variants on offer. It differs from the regular GLA variant both mechanically and cosmetically.
The new GLA 45 AMG boasts an all-new front grille with an AMG badge with tweaked bumper. In addition, elements such as black roof, side skirts, rear diffuser and quad exhausts accentuate its sporty character. Furthermore, it also flaunts red accents on grille, rear diffuser and wing mirrors, as being a typical AMG beast. The 19-inch alloys too showcase red calipers. Inside the cabin, there are a multiple upgrades in the form of sportier front seats and flat-bottomed steering wheel. However, since it is an AMG car, hence red stitching is visible on the dashboard, seats and steering. Moreover, the seat belts too are in the red color scheme.
Mechanically, the GLA 45 AMG comes loaded with a 2.0L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged motor which was also seen in the recently launched CLA 45 AMG. This powertrain makes out a massive power output of 355 bhp and 450Nm of peak torque performance. The transmission duties are done by a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch transmission which disburses the power evenly to all the four wheels of the crossover owing to the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. Mercedes-Benz claims that 2.0-litre turbo petrol is the most powerful series-production four-cylinder turbo engine in the world. This engine propels the GLA 45 AMG to achieve the 100kmph mark from standstill in a mere 4.8 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG is the most economical AMG SUV from the company stable, quite similar to the CLA 45 AMG, which is the most affordable AMG sedan.
