Mercedes Benz India is all set to launch its next car in the country in form of GLA-Class SUV on September 30, 2014. The company confirmed the same via its official Facebook page when it released a teaser image of the car that showcased the beast with written text that it would make its Indian debut on September 30. However, the company has been accepting pre-orders for the baby SUV from May at a taken amount of Rs 1.5 Lakhs.
Underpinning the front wheel drive platform of the A-Class, the GLA-Class made its global debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, last year in September. The SUV is expected to be launched in both petrol and diesel guises. The petrol variant would carry a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine which would generate a maximum power output of 155 bhp along with a peak torque performance of 250Nm. On the other hand, the diesel variants would in-house a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine with a top power of 135bhp and peak torque of 300Nm. Both the engines would be mated to company's latest 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. The GLA would have an electronically limited top speed of 215kmph; while in terms of safety features, it would be comprising of 7-airbags.
Very similar to its siblings, Mercedes-Benz A-Class & B-Class, it too would be sold in the country en-route CBU. It would be pitted against the likes of Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Volvo V40 Cross Country and is expected to carry a sticker price above Rs. 30 Lakhs.
