Mercedes-Benz India would launch the new GLC SUV on June 2, 2016 in the country. Having made its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in February, the GLC is based on the MRA architecture as the C-Class saloon. The German luxury automaker would position the GLC between the GLA and GLE in the Indian market, while it would be challenging the likes of BMW X3 and Audi Q5. It would be an all-new vehicle for the Indian market and would be introduced in diesel fuel trim only.
Talking about the exterior appearance, Mercedes GLC has a front fascia identical to the C-Class saloon. The cabin elements are also shared with the C-Class, though it is quite taller than the C-Class due to its SUV-ish stance. Also, it is more spacious than the C-Class due to elongated wheelbase. The equipments, inside the cabin, would be borrowed from the sedan sibling and one can expect features like Mercedes-Benz COMAND infotainment system, touchpad, ARTICO leather upholstery, and leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel. It would also get Merc's Dynamic Select Controller with five driving modes on offer.
Under the hood, the GLC would have the 2.0L 4-cylinder diesel motor which can be seen in majority of its models in India. The engine would develop power in two states: 168bhp and 400 Nm for the GLC 220d variant and 201bhp ad 500Nm for the GLC 250d variant. It would be coupled with the new 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. Earlier, it was learnt that petrol variants of the SUV might also be launched due to Supreme Court's ban on sales of diesel vehicles in Delhi-NCR with engine capacity of 2000cc or above. Now, the petrol variants are expected to be launched at a later stage. Just so you know, the Delhi-NCR region accounts for major chunk of sales of these luxury high-end SUVs.
