Mercedes-Benz India has launched the GLS Class at a sticker price of Rs 80.40 lakh (Ex showroom, Pune). The GLS Class has been touted as the S-Class among SUVs and is the flagship product in the SUV portfolio of the German marque. First made its world premiere at the 2015 Los Angeles Motor Show in November, it will replace the GL Class and comes with many cosmetic tweaks over the previous model. The wraps were taken off by Roland Folger, Managing Direstor & CEO Mercedes-Benz India Pvt. Ltd.
In terms of the cosmetic updates, the Mercedes GLS Class gets a redesigned front fascia that can easily distinguish it from the outgoing model, at the rear you will find restyled bumper and tail-lamp. The new front end includes power domes on the bonnet, while among changes at the rear are the more prominent tailpipes. Dimensionally, it measures 5130mm in length, 1934mm in width and 1850mm in height and sits on a wheelbase of 3075mm. It rides on the newly-developed light-alloy wheels and will be available in six colour options.
Inside, you will find a revised interior with three rows of seating which can accommodate seven passengers comfortably. The newly designed interior includes instrument panel with semi-integrated media display, new 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, and a modified centre console with touch-pad as standard. It also features an ionization system for even better interior air quality as an optional feature, the latest generation 8-inch COMAND Online infotainment system with a colour media display as well as the intuitive touchpad.
Mechanically, it will be powered by the same 3.0-litre turbo-diesel unit that is good for 254bhp and 620Nm of torque, while the engine is connected to the a 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission and also available with Mercedes' Dynamic Select feature, which provides up to five transmission modes - Comfort, Slippery, Sport, Individual and Off-Road. As for the safety of the occupants, the GLS boasts of Collision prevention assist, Crosswind Assist, Brake Assist, Electronic all-wheel drive traction system and Attention Assist as standard features.
