The famous Bavarian car maker Mercedes-Benz is already topping the charts of Formula one, and now the company is looking to continue its success stories even in the Formula E races as well. Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix ltd has signed an agreement with Formula E operations ltd by which Mercedes can enter the Formula E competition in its 5th season. According to the agreement, the German company can choose to be one of the maximum of 12 entries to be proposed by the championship promoter to the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) to enter from the 2018/19 season.
Mercedes would have the choice to be one of the two new entries that would be allocated slots in the Formula E’s fifth season. The Formula E is an all-electric car racing series, and was started back in 2012 at Beijing. Teams like Renault e.dams, ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport, DS Virgin Racing, Dragon Racing, NEXTEV Team China Racing and Team Aguri fights for the top spot in the Formula E championship and the introduction of Mercedes would heat up the event even further.
According to the CEO of the racing event, they are excited to reserve a spot among two empty spots in the championship and is looking forward to turn the event into a platform, where car manufacturers can build and test their electrical vehicles and eventually introduce these technologies to on road cars, which would be available for the masses. The introduction of a brand like Mercedes in the Formula E championship would be a major boost to achieve the objective of building more electric cars that would eventually make the world greener and less polluted, hence making Formula E a very relevant platform in the future.
This announcement from Mercedes came after it unveiled an all electric sub brand EQ at the 2016 Paris Motor show. So one can expect Mercedes would use the Formula E as its testing platform.
