Mercedes-Benz S400 launched in at Rs 1.28 crore

Mercedes-Benz launched the new entry-level S-Class, the S400 at Rs 1.28 crore (Ex-showroom, Delhi). Joining the pool of other S-class models, the luxury Sedan is the third new product launched by Mercedes-Benz in the country. Earlier, the tag of the most affordable petrol model of the S-class was the S500 powered by a twin turbo V8 engine, but now it is the S400 that will be positioned between the S 350d and the S500 variants. Wraps of the Mercedes S400 were taken off by Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes Benz India and Yashwant Jhabakh, Group Chairman, Mahavir Motors.

During the launch of the Mercedes S400, Mr Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “Mercedes-Benz believes in introducing the latest products and variants in the market at regular intervals, to keep customer interest and curiosity intact in the brand. This strategy we firmly believe has contributed to our unmatched success in India. With the launch of the S 400, we further extend the S-Class model range and also bolster our strong presence in the prestigious S-Class segment. The S 400 symbolizes benchmark craftsmanship, affluence and grandeur. No other car stands for the Mercedes-Benz brand promise more than the S-Class”.

Further, Mr Folger added, “The S-Class has always set standards that have retained its accolade as "the best automobile in the world" with each generation. We are excited to introduce the 9th variant of our flagship model for them. The S 400 will be locally manufactured in our world-class production facility in Chakan, Pune. This is yet another firm affirmation of our vision of ‘make in India’, and our unwavering commitment to the Indian customer in presenting the best of our global offerings.”

Inside the Mercedes S400 you get the same comfy feel as all S-Class cars are known for. The interior welcomes with the Napa leather a high-resolution 31.2-cm TFT display with Mercedes’ COMAND infotainment system, reclining seats with 16-way seat massage function and loads of other luxury features ensure that you are sitting in the lap of luxury whether you are driving or being chauffeured around.

Under the hood, the Mercedes S400 is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that cranks out 333 bhp of power and a massive 480 Nm of peak torque. The engine is connected to the same 7-speed GTronic transmission, incorporated in the S500. In the international market, the Mercedes S400 is offered as an hybrid version.

In terms of  safety, the S-Class has never ceased to raise technology standards, pioneering safety, comfort and engineering features such as ABS, anti-lock brakes, 8 airbag, PRE Safe, Brake Assist, Adaptive Brakes with HOLD function, ASR and Hill Start Assist. The new S-Class promises to continue to raise the benchmark in efficiency, in comfort, featuring advanced AIRMATIC suspension that ensures smooth ride quality.

Mercedes-Benz S400 will compete with the likes Audi A8L, BMW 7 Series and Jaguar XJ.
