Followed by the launch of Mercedes S600 Guard, the German luxury car maker, Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch to S400 in India. The luxury sedan will join a pool of other S-class models as the company look to further strengthen its market position in the country. Earlier, the tag of the most affordable petrol model of the S-class was the S500 powered by a twin turbo V8 engine, but it will change after the launch of S400. The variant of the S-Class will position itself between the S 350d and the S500 variants.
Under the hood, the Mercedes-Benz S400 will be powered by a smaller 3.0-litre V6 engine, and is expected to produce about 330PS of max power and 480Nm of peak torque. The engine will be connected to the same 7-speed GTronic transmission that also serves the S500. The S400 will be ideal for those looking for better economy over the available S500 with the V8 engine. Mercedes could also an all-new 9-speed gearbox.
Currently, the company is selling a range of variants of the S-Class sedan in the country, including S 350d diesel, S500 petrol, long wheelbase Maybach S-Class in S500 and S600 fuel options along with S600 Guard and an AMG spec S 63. The Mercedes S400 will be a more affordable petrol variant of the S-Class saloon in the country.
