Mercedes-Benz India has finally launched the new S600 Guard at a sticker price of Rs. 10.5 Crores (Ex. Showroom) in the country. The S600 Guard is the only passenger car on the entire planet to offer the highest ballistic protection of VR10 level. Being based on the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, the S600 Guard also topples out all its contemporaries in blast protection. Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard is the first non-military vehicle to offer the highest levels of both ballistic and blast protection.
The body as well as windows can withstand hardened steel core bullets fired from an assault rifle. Already at the bodyshell stage, protective components of special steel are integrated into the cavities between the body structure and the outer skin. Special aramid and PE components help ensure the protection offered by the vehicle. Intelligent overlapping systems at particularly critical points, such as material transitions and interstices, provide comprehensive ballistic protection. The windows are a fixed and essential part of the protective elements. The windows are coated with polycarbonate on the inside for splinter protection, and have outstanding visual characteristics, despite their laminated structure.
Under the hood, the Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard has a 6.0L V12 engine which develops 523bhp of top power and 830Nm of peak torque. The armored vehicle rides on reinforced Michelin runflat tyres that can even operate at 0psi pressure for 30 kilometers at a speed of 30kmph. The S600 Guard had its world premiere around 15 days back at the company headquarters in Germany. Despite weighing 4.7 tonnes, it does a 0-100kmph sprint in just 8 seconds.
