Luxury carmaker Mercedes Benz has officially revealed the latest generation of the safest S-Class sedan, the armoured S600 Guard. The bulletproof S600 Guard now joins the Merc’s fleet of special protection models, which includes the E-Guard, M-Guard and the G500 Guard.
Just like all other Guard versions from the Mercedes Benz portfolio, the S600 Guard provides all-round protection to its occupants, thanks to the ballistic protection components installed in both the transparent and non-transparent area, and features specific reinforcement of the base structure.
Mercedes Benz says that the protective components of special steel are integrated into the cavities between the body structure and the outer skin, with special aramide and PE components providing additional splinter protection. The glass area of the S600 Guard has been coated with polycarbonate on the inside for splinter protection. Also, the underbody of the sedan has been almost entirely covered with armouring.
Powering the S600 Guard is a V12 petrol unit that is able to put out 530PS of max power and 830Nm of peak torque. The engine has been mated to the 7G-Tronic automatic transmission. Merc says that the Airmatic suspension has been modified to counter the disadvantages caused due to the increased weight and lowered ground clearance from the armour. The vehicle also gets larger brakes than those seen on the regular model in order to bring the heavy S600 Guard to a halt.
Other notable features of the S600 Guard include, a 360 degree camera, night view assist, Driver Assistance Package Plus and PAX run-flat tyres with additional tyre pressure monitoring system. Optional extras include, a panic alarm button, LED reading lamps in the rear and opaque roller blinder in the rear to name a few.
