While we reported few days back that the Mercedes-Benz will launch its CLA-Class on 20th January, 2015, new reports have came in that the launch will finally happen on January 22, 2015 in the country. The German luxury automajor has also claimed that the newbie would be the most affordable luxury saloon in the country; hence, giving Audi's recently launched A3 saloon a run for its money. Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class would share its engine with the GLA-Class compact SUV.
Underpinning the company's MFA (Modular Front-wheel drive Architecture) platform, CLA-Class would arrive in both petrol and diesel guises. It would be company's entry-level model and would be placed beneath the C-Class. Apart from the CLA-Class, several other company cars such as A-Class, B-Class, GLA-Class and CLA 45 AMG are based on Mercedes' MFA platform. As far as looks are concerned, CLA-Class is a winner as its styling is sleek, attractive and aggressive. With its coupe-like roofline, it would certainly tempt several enthusiasts. Mercedes-Benz would sell the saloon via CBU (Completely Built Unit) in India, for the time being, like the A-Class, B-Class and GLA-Class. However, the company intends to manufacture them locally by the end of 2015 to keep the costs in check.
Under the hood, the petrol variants of the CLA-Class would have a 2.0L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged powertrain which would generate a maximum power output of 181bhp and peak torque performance of 300Nm. On the other hand, the diesel variants would in-house a 2.2L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged motor which is good enough for 136 bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. Both the engines would be paired to a 7G-DCT automatic transmission and power would be transferred to the front wheels of the sedan. It is expected that it would be priced in a bracket of Rs. 26-33 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India).
