Mercedes-Benz is all set release its first all new pickup truck, which was teased last year. A teaser video from Mercedes provides a glimpse of what can be expected, while pick up is based on the Nissan Navara, the German brand have reworked the design extensively to make it look like an European pickup truck.
The video doesn't uncover much, however indicates bits like the swooping bonnet lines, hefty estimated mark logo on the front grille, good looking headlamps and wing mirrors, and LED taillights, alongside the aggressively designed front guard. It looks similar to Japanese pickup truck, on which it is based on, but one can expect better fit and finish level in the German pickup. While the platform will be shared with the Navara, the engine and transmission options are expected to include a range of four- and six-cylinder engines from Daimler Mercedes.
While Mercedes hasn't announced a name for the vehicle yet, but it could be named as X-Class or GLT. The base model of the pickup truck is expected to be powered by a 2.3-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that can churn out peak 188 horsepower, while the other variants will carry same motors but they are likely to get added features.
The pickup will be launched initially for the markets of Latin America, South Africa, Australia and Europe. However, the company hasn’t mentioned USA as a target market yet but, due the popularity of pickups in US, the possibility of a launch cannot be ruled out.
