Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the much awaited A-Class sedan’s production ready avatar at the ongoing 2018 Beijing Motor Show. Ready to be built in both standard and long-wheelbase variants, the standard wheelbase model could be launched in India sometime next year. The German luxury car manufacturer is already evaluating the A-Class sedan’s launch here. The automaker will decide between the A-Class sedan and the second generation CLA for Indian market.
Both the A-Class sedan and second generation CLA come with their own appeal to lure the Indian buyers that is experiencing an increasing demand for luxury cars. Based on the A-Class hatchback, the A-Class sedan is the sixth member of the brand’s compact car family and it comes following the design inspiration from bigger models in the Mercedes-Benz’s sedan portfolio.
The Chinese-spec A-Class sedan is officially dubbed as A-Class L and it comes 60 mm larger compared to the standard version that is meant to be sold in global markets. The standard model gets a wheelbase measuring 2,279 mm and it also has a length of 4,549 mm. The compact luxury sedan will lock horns with Audi A3 and it appears 91 mm longer than the rival.
While the automaker is yet to finalize which one to be launched in India between the A-Class sedan and the CLA, the latter has a coupe like appearance and comes delivering a sporty vibe. Interestingly, the first generation CLA has achieved impressive success in India. On the other hand, the A-Class sedan comes looks much more practical and reflects elegance like the bigger siblings. We hope to learn more about the brand’s strategy shortly.
