Mercedes Benz has commenced the production of GLA facelift at the Rastatt production facility in Germany. The Mercedes GLA facelift had its world premiere at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January. It would go on sale from April in several international markets. The new GLA enters its current model year with an expanded range of engines, a systematic visual upgrade of the interior and exterior design as well as updated equipment variants. The GLA was first presented in 2013.
“The ramp-up of the GLA is further proof of the diversity, competitiveness and efficiency of our production operations at the Rastatt plant. Within a very short space of time, our team mastered another ramp-up in ongoing series-production, while the location operates at full capacity and the preparations for the next generation of compact cars are running at full steam”, says Thomas Geier, Location Manager Mercedes-Benz Rastatt plant. The Mercedes-Benz Rastatt plant in Germany is the biggest employer in the region, with a workforce of around 6.500 employees. It rolled out more than 300,000 vehicles in 2016, including the A-Class, B-Class and B-Class Electric Drive, and GLA compact SUV.
Mercedes Benz GLA was launched in the Indian market in September 2014, while local production of the SUV started at the company's Pune production plant in June 2015. It is one of the biggest volume gainers for the company in India. The facelifted SUV comes with a free-standing 8-inch media display and new dials with red needles. The control switches on the electric seat adjustment are now finished in chrome - and the storage compartment in the centre console is also now surrounded by a chrome frame. The SUV also gets a first-in-segment 360-degree camera, which records the surroundings of the car. They are shown via the media display. Also, it is possible to view the car from a birdseye view - produced from the data of four cameras: front, reversing and one camera in each of the exterior mirrors.
