The automobile market is humongous with thousands of models rolling in the streets, falling under few body type categories. But every now and then, a manufacturer come up with a genre, which confuses anyone related to this field. So did it happened when BMW decided to launch their X6 crossover, which left many stunned. And now, Mercedes has decided to widen the segment and give customers more options, with its new GLE-Coupe.
A striking combination of Coupe and SUV, the GLE will come in two versions, a standard and a 450 AMG version, both having a front fascia so prominent that it can shy away most of the SUVs. The grille has a single bar design with LED headlights at edges. The GLE comes with a dynamic roofline and plastic body cladding, chrome trim, a dual exhaust system and standard 20-inch alloy wheels. The model also comes with an AIRMATIC air suspension that lowers the ride height at higher speeds.
Inside the cabin, both the standard and the GLE version will get a different set of trims. The GLE 450 AMG comes with the nappa leather sports steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and carbon fiber trim with piano black accents, whereas the standard model has sport seats, a sport steering wheel and a new infotainment display. The cabin will get silver shadow accents and aluminum or wood trim, depending on model.
Under the hood, the GLE 350 d 4MATIC comes with a 258 ps and 620 Nm engine. A step ahead will be the more powerful GLE 400 4MATIC with a twin-turbo 3.0 litre V6 engine that develops 333 ps power and 480 Nm of torque. The top of the line GLE 450 AMG will come with a more powerful twin-turbo 3.0 litre V6 mill that churns out 367 ps and 520 Nm of torque.
All the three variants will come mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, while the AMG version will also have a Dynamic Select system with five specially-tuned modes: Individual, comfort, slippery, sport and sport+.
