Mercedes-Benz is working on the new GLS, its S-Class based luxury SUV. The car will come not only offering the supreme quality luxury, but a wide range of technology and features. One of them will be the autonomous driving technology borrowed from the new S-Class. This technology will certainly make the driving experience even more pleasurable and safer as well.
The new Mercedes GLS will come sporting a design that will be similar to the GLE and the powertrain will be shared with the German luxury brand’s flagship SUV. The range topping upcoming SUV will come with significant design changes. It would look more muscular and appealing, while the brand would implement its new aerodynamically efficient design language in the car.
Just like the present GLS, the new model too will share several components with the S-Class luxury sedan. Inside the cabin, the new SUV would offer more space to the occupants ensuring even better comfort. The most attractive fact of the new SUV is going to be the German car manufacturer’s latest Distronic Active Proximity Control and Active Steer Assist systems. This system will automatically accelerate and apply brake, keeping the SUV in speed limit. The autonomous steering function will be limited for a 30 second period.
On the powertrain front, the new GLS will get the eight-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines and six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. Also, there will be a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid model. The top-end variant will be the AMG badged 4.0-litre V8 powered model that would capable of churning out around 620 bhp of peak power.
