Mercedes Unveils Maybach GLS SUV in China at 2019 Guangzhou Motor Show

Mercedes Benz has taken the wraps off the new Maybach GLS at the 2019 Guangzhou motor show in China. Adding yet another marvel to its exquisite Maybach range, the company has positioned it alongside the Mercedes Maybach S-Class sedan while it will take on the likes of Bentley Bentayga and Range Rover.

Initially, Mercedes Maybach GLS SUV will be launched in Chinese, North American, and European markets while there is no word on India launch.

Identical to Maybach badged S-Class, the SUV flaunts several different styling elements to distinguish itself from the standard GLS. These include a front chrome grille with vertical louvers, chrome surroundings inside the side windows and alongside the sills, and an exhaust pipes with chrome treatment and the signature cross rib.

The SUV rides on 22-inch alloy wheels as standard while 23-inch wheels can be availed as optional. Also, it is offered in an optional dual-tone paint scheme with eight different combinations. Mercedes Maybach GLS SUV measures 5202mm in length while the boot capacity is pegged at 520 liters.

The cabin gets an upgrade in the form of Nappa leather upholstery and various other unique trim elements. The premium features include rear reclining seats with massage function, a center console with folding tables, a four-seat layout with refrigerator and a panoramic sunroof to name a few.

Mechanically, Mercedes Maybach GLS will be powered by a mild-hybrid 4.0L V8 engine with a 48V electric motor. The top power output stands at 558bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque performance is 730Nm between 2500-5000rpm.

Being available only in the GLS 600 4Matic trim, it will feature a 9-speed automatic transmission and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system as standard.
