Italy is a land of automobiles, Ferrari being the ruler among many. Coming onto Italy for F1, fans wished for Ferrari to burn some crackers, but Mercedes proved a party spoiler for them. Both the drivers from Mercedes took the podium along with Felipe Massa making his maiden podium finish for Williams.
Hamilton had a poor start when he slipped to 4th after starting from pole position, however, series of mistakes from his team mate Rosberg made it easier for Hamilton to move up the tally and eventually ended up winning the race. This is the 6th win for the Briton who ended up 4.5s faster than his German team mate. In doing so, he clinched 7 more points in pursuit of world title moving him inches closer to Nico in tally. The news from Williams retaining Massa for the next season just hours before the race, sparked fuel in him to achieve his maiden podium for Williams this season finishing at 3rd position after both the Mercedes.
Williams' other driver, Bottas finished 4th after an unfortunate start as he was out of top 10 after 1st lap only. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo finished 5th ahead of his team mate Sebastian Vettel who finished 6th. Meanwhile, Italy's very own Fernando Alonso failed to finish the race due to an ERS problem. It was the first time in this season that he did not score a point. Rosberg is leading now with 238 points ahead of Hamilton's 216 point. Following them are Daniel Ricciardo with 166 and Bottas 122 who overtakes Alonso at fifth on drivers tally with 121 points.
In the constructors' championship Mercedes is leading the tally with 454 points with Red Bull next on 272. Williams are third thanks to Massa's maiden podium for them with 177 ahead of Ferrari on 162, McLaren on 110 and Force India on 109 are 5th and 6th on tally respectively.
