After launching the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Celebration Edition in India, the German luxury car major is planning to bring in the SLK-55 AMG and updated S-Class to India. While the SLK-55 AMG will be launched on 2nd December, the updated S-Class will be here sometime in January.
We will first talk about the SLK-55 AMG, which is first of the two vehicles lined-up to be launched. What additionally the SLK 55 AMG has over the existing SLK series is the AMG fitment, which includes an AMG front and rear aprons, new side skirting, ventilated and perforated disc brakes, AMG sport suspension, AMG sport exhaust, torque vectoring brake and a new set of 18-inches 5-spoke alloys. There are changes given inside the cabin as well like aluminum interior trim, Eco start-stop system, Nappa leather upholstery and few more.
Deriving its power from a 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 mill, the SLK-55 AMG produces 421bhp and touches the 0-100kmph mark in mere 4.6 seconds. The top-speed is electronically limited to 250kmph. Transmitting power to the rear-wheels is the AMG speedshift 7G-Tronic plus seven-speed automatic gearbox. This vehicle runs on three driving modes- Controlled Efficiency, Manual and Sports.
The 2014 S-Class largely remains unchanged, except few styling and technical updates. The rear seats of the car now has 14mm of extra keen room, while the shoulder room is 14mm more than the outgoing version. In terms of equipment level, the new S-Class gets hot stone message function, a Burmester audiophile grade audio and an active perfuming system. In terms of safety, the vehicle has now gone even richer with new features like rear belt bag which has an airbag within the seat belt strap, radar cruise control with optional automatic braking function and night vision.
We are expecting no mechanical changes in the S-Class; it will continue to derive its power from the existing engine line-up. Stay tuned to Autoportal for more updates on the same.
