Earlier this week, Mercedes-Benz India officially launched the GLE in our country and now the company’s global division is expanding the model’s portfolio by adding a more powerful GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC version. It’s a follow-up to the GLE 450 AMG Coupe and the C450 AMG, so it acts as the beefiest version of the regular range, sitting right below the fully-fledged Mercedes-AMG GLE 63.
Its heart and soul is a bi-turbocharged V6 3.0-liter gasoline engine capable of delivering a beefy 367 bhp and 520 Nm of torque sent to the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system with help from a nine-speed automatic transmission that sends 40% of the torque to the front axle and 60% to the rear wheels. As a result of this hardware arrangement, the GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC runs the 0-100 kmph sprint in as little as 5.7 seconds before reaching a maximum speed which has been electronically limited to 250 kmph.
Aside from packing more punch, the high-performance SUV from Daimler also has a sportier body and new five-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels while on the inside it has gained a fresh aluminum trim, flat-bottomed steering wheel, brushed stainless steel sport pedals and Nappa leather upholstery. More importantly, it comes as standard with the AIRMATIC package which encompasses an air suspension, variable adaptive damping and automatic level control.
In addition, the GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC is fitted with the Sports Direct-Steer system and has numerous goodies as standard like adaptive braking, attention assist system, collision prevention assist plus, as well as a tire pressure monitoring system and electrically adjustable front seats. At an additional cost, the model can be optionally equipped with a Bang & Olufsen sound system, LED headlights, COMAND Online, climatised front seats and porcelain & black two-tone Nappa leather upholstery.
It’s not known at this point whether Mercedes-Benz India plans on eventually bringing this new GLE member in our country to sit alongside the available GLE 250 d 4MATIC and GLE 350 d 4MATIC models.
