Mercedes-Benz India has officially said to bring in the new 2014 S-Class on January 8, 2014. Earlier, the company was planning to launch the vehicle at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in February, but seeing the growing demand for the new Model, the company decided to launch it sooner than planned. The old S-Class has already gone out of stock.
To be brought as CBU (Completely Built Unit), only top-end S 500 variant of the car will be launched initially. The locally assembled S 350 CDI diesel will be introduced by mid 2014, which will also be a more affordable version of the vehicle. Powering the car will be a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged, V8 petrol mill, capable of churning out a maximum power output of 453bhp and 700Nm of peak torque.
Expected to be priced around Rs 1.6 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi), Mercedes-Benz has already started taking pre-orders for the car. And the company has already sold out units for the first three months.
Other than the S-Class, Mercedes-Benz is also planning to launch the GLA crossover, which we believe to be displayed at the 12th Auto Expo in February. There are also rumours about Mercedes' plans of launching the CLA compact saloon in India in 2014, though we don't think it will happen any time soon before 2015.
