MG Motor India is all set to introduce its first ever vehicle in the country in the coming days in form of the Hector SUV. However, even prior to the Hector's launch, the company has already started the production of the all-electric eZS SUV, which will be its second offering in the Indian market and debut by December 2019. MG eZS production is underway at the company's production facility in Halol, Gujarat from the CKD kits imported from China. It will directly take on the Hyundai Kona, which will launch on July 9, 2019 in India.

The British brand recently released a video which revealed the first unit of the eZS being rolled out of the assembly line at the Halol facility in Gujarat on the even of June 5, which is celebrated globally as world environment day. Earlier this year, P Balendran, Executive Director, MG Motor India had said in an interview to IAB that MG eZS is going to be sold in India via the CBU route and the company could contemplate localization depending on the strong response. But, it seems that MG has changed that plan and is intending to develop the SUV locally right from the beginning. Rajeev Chaba, President & Managing Director, MG Motor India confirmed the local production by stating that, "The MG eZS, as one of the first locally produced global EVs, will mark a new chapter in environment-friendly mobility in India.”

Talking about the MG eZS, it will be bigger than 4 meters in length with width and height of 1809mm and 1644mm, respectively. It will have decent cabin space with wheelbase of 2585mm. The zero-emission and noiseless SUV would fetch power from an electric motor which will develop top power of 147bhp and peak torque of 350Nm. This motor will draw energy from a 44.5 kWh battery pack while having a driving range of 335kms upon fully charged. It will do the 0-50kmph sprint in just 3.1 seconds with power consumption rating (NEDC) of 13.8 kWh/100 km. The SUV is also expected to feature the Hector's iSMART Next-Gen touchscreen infotainment system alongwith several more features being borrowed. Expect the price to start at Rs 20 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) due to local production.
